Indian Railways is set to launch its inaugural underwater commercial service on March 15, connecting Kolkata and Howrah. Recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Esplanade-Howrah Maidan (Green Line) Metro Railway link marks India’s first-ever underwater metro connection.

Metro Railway, Kolkata, plans to operate 130 services between Esplanade and Howrah Maidan, with trains available every 12-15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Smart card holders for the North-South Metro can use their cards along this stretch, providing seamless travel for commuters.
